Comprehensive web app audit

I engaged Cure53 for a web application security audit last month. The initial contact and scope definition were very professional, handled by "Mr. Müller" from their team. They laid out the process clearly, including the lead time for their assessment, which was about three weeks out as expected for a firm of their reputation. The actual testing phase was thorough; they provided regular updates on their progress without us having to chase them. The final report was incredibly detailed, pinpointing several critical vulnerabilities we weren't aware of. It included clear recommendations and even code-level suggestions for remediation. Their findings were actionable, which is crucial. We also used their vulnerability disclosure process, which went smoothly. While the service is definitely an investment, the quality and depth of their work justified the cost. Communication was excellent throughout.

Solid security assessment, some wait

We hired Cure53 for a software security consulting project. The expertise was clearly there; their team knew their stuff and provided valuable guidance that helped us shore up our codebase. The report was comprehensive and easy to understand, even for our non-security focused developers. The only slight drawback was the lead time for scheduling; it took a bit longer to get started than I had initially hoped. Once they were on board, however, the process was efficient. Good value for the quality of work, but factor in the scheduling wait.

Reliable infrastructure audit

This was our third time using Cure53, this time for an infrastructure audit. Like always, their methodology was consistent and their team was very professional. They found a few tricky config issues we had missed. It's why we keep coming back.

Just finished an API security assessment with Cure53 and I'm so impressed! Their team dove deep and found issues we thought were impossible to spot. The insights were invaluable, truly top-notch work. I'm already planning our next engagement with them. Definitely recommend them to anyone serious about security!

Good pentest experience

We needed a penetration test for our new platform. Reached out to Cure53, and they got back to us pretty fast. The whole thing felt straightforward. Their team was easy to work with, even when we had some questions. The report we got at the end was solid, helped us fix some stuff before launch. Happy with how it turned out.

Thinking of booking a penetration test with Cure53 for our new API. How was your experience with their lead times and overall process? I'm worried about getting stuck in a long queue.

N NikhilS 3 days ago ✓ Best Answer
Lead times can be a bit long, especially for their more in-depth assessments. We booked our infra audit about 3 months in advance. Their process was super professional though, very detailed scoping calls and clear communication throughout.

3 months is a while, but good to know about the communication. Thanks!

Yeah, they're in high demand. Worth the wait though, their reports are gold.

I haven't used them personally but heard they're quite booked out. Best to contact them ASAP for a quote and specific timelines. Their vulnerability disclosure process is also very clear from what I've read in their public reports.

R Rahul 3 days ago
Yeah, just reach out. They're usually pretty responsive on initial inquiries.

Following this thread, good info. Was wondering about their process too.

For an API pentest, it might depend on the complexity. We did a mobile app audit with them last year, and the lead time was closer to 6-8 weeks. They were very thorough in the initial setup phase, getting all the right access and understanding our architecture.
12
M MobileDev88 3 days ago
Mostly fixed-price based on the scope they agree on. They're pretty firm on that once it's set.
8
A API_Guru 3 days ago
Okay, 6-8 weeks is more manageable. Did they offer fixed-price testing or was it time & materials?

Finally got our pentest report back from Cure53. Overall impressed with the detail, but the recommendations are quite extensive. Anyone else feel overwhelmed trying to prioritize their findings after an audit?

I ITGuru 2 weeks ago ✓ Best Answer
Oh absolutely. Their reports are thorough, almost too thorough sometimes, haha. We usually schedule a follow-up call with their team to go through the critical ones first. They're usually pretty helpful in explaining the impact and suggesting a roadmap.

C coolboy88 2 weeks ago
Yeah, they do a good debrief. Makes a huge difference.

That's a good idea, a follow-up call. We just got the PDF and are staring at it.

We just got our source code audit report last week. It's a lot to digest. How does Cure53 compare to other pentesting firms you've used in terms of report clarity and actionable insights?
5
I ITGuru 2 weeks ago
For us, Cure53's reports are way more detailed than others we've tried. Others sometimes give more generic advice.
7
M MayaP 2 weeks ago
Agreed, the depth is their strength. But it means more work on our end.
0
M MayaP 2 weeks ago
Yeah, the sheer volume of vulnerabilities can be a bit much. What kind of audit did you get? We had them do an infrastructure audit last quarter, and while the report was dense, their severity ratings helped a lot in prioritizing.
2
G GamerRaj 2 weeks ago
It was a web application security audit. Lots of stuff in the medium and low categories.
4
N NikhilS 2 weeks ago
Mediums can still be tricky to clear.

Just got the quote for a web app security audit from Cure53. It's... higher than I expected for a startup. Anyone know if they offer any specific discounts for early-stage companies or open-source projects?

C CyberWolf 4 weeks ago ✓ Best Answer
They do have public audit reports for some open-source stuff, so they definitely engage with that community. Maybe try reaching out with details about your project, explaining the open-source aspect? Doesn't hurt to ask.

S Sneha22 4 weeks ago
Yeah, worst they can say is no. Good luck!

T TechDevGuy 4 weeks ago
Good point, I'll draft an email outlining our project. Thanks!

P PriyaK 4 weeks ago
Yeah, their pricing can be a bit steep, but you get what you pay for. I heard they sometimes work with open-source projects, but it's usually on a case-by-case basis. Never seen a general 'startup promo code' though.
0
R Rahul87 4 weeks ago
Have you tried just asking them directly? Sometimes they're open to negotiation, especially if it's a project they find interesting.
6
T TechDevGuy 4 weeks ago
That's what I figured. Hard to justify it when the budget is tight.
6
D Deepak91 4 weeks ago
From what I understand, they don't really do 'discounts' in the traditional sense like a coupon code. Their value is in their reputation and thoroughness. For startups, sometimes a smaller scope assessment might be an option if you discuss it with them.
12
T TechDevGuy 4 weeks ago
That makes sense. Scope reduction might be the way to go initially.

Agreed, better a focused audit than no audit at all.

Just got the quote back for a web app security audit from Cure53. It's a bit higher than I anticipated. Anyone have experience with negotiating prices or know if they offer any discounts, especially for early-stage startups?

T TechFreak 1 month ago ✓ Best Answer
Their pricing is definitely on the higher end, but you're paying for top-tier expertise. We used them for a smart contract audit and the depth of their findings was unmatched. We didn't get any discount, but honestly, the value was there. Maybe try to scope down the audit if budget is a major concern?
6
C CryptoDev 1 month ago
Curious, what was the lead time for your smart contract audit?
0
D Deepak 1 month ago
That's what we did. Started with a smaller module.

Good point about scoping. We might need to look at a phased approach.

Following this. We're also looking at Cure53 for a mobile app audit and wondering about costs. Are there any Cure53 promo codes floating around anywhere?

R Rahul87 1 month ago
Haven't seen any promo codes for them ever.

I tried asking for a startup discount last year, they were pretty firm on their rates. They did mention they sometimes offer reduced rates for open source projects, but for a commercial startup, it was full price. Worth asking though, you never know.
8
R RohitK 1 month ago
Yeah, I heard that about open source too. Our project isn't open source unfortunately.

How does Cure53 stack up against someone like Trail of Bits or Bishop Fox? Trying to pick between a few firms for an app audit.

B Brett 1 month ago
They're all top-tier, but Cure53 really shines in deep technical audits, especially for web apps and open source. They're very meticulous. Trail of Bits is also great for cutting-edge research.
3
R Renee 1 month ago
I think Cure53 has a really strong rep for finding obscure stuff, especially if you're worried about browser-level vulnerabilities or really complex codebases. Bishop Fox and others are good for broader enterprise stuff, but Cure53 gets deep.

Thinking about getting an audit from these guys. Anyone know how long it usually takes to get one of their assessments scheduled? Like, from initial contact to actually starting the work?

S Sarah 1 month ago
Yeah, it's not like ordering a pizza lol. From my experience, you're looking at a few weeks at least for the initial scoping and then getting it on the books. They're pretty in demand.
1
R Rosa J. 1 month ago
I heard it can be a bit of a wait, especially for bigger projects. Like, if you need something done super quick, you might have to check if they have any openings soon, but usually it's a lead time kinda thing.

Does Cure53 ever do any kind of discounts or promo codes? My startup is on a pretty tight budget, trying to see if I can save a bit.

S Steve 1 month ago
Nah, pretty sure they don't do codes or anything like that. Their pricing is all project-based, scope and whatnot. They're a premium service.
6
T Todd S. 1 month ago
I asked them about discounts for a non-profit once, and they basically said no. Their rates are their rates. They don't do coupons like a regular store, it's not that kind of business.

Are these guys actually legit? Found some of their reports online but never heard of them until now.

J Josh Romero 1 month ago
Totally legit. They're one of the best in the business, especially for browser stuff and open source projects. Super well-respected in the security community.

I Ivy N. 1 month ago
Oh yeah, 100% legitimate. They're based out of Germany, and they've done work for some really big names. Their public reports are famous for being super thorough. You can trust them.
